Abstract:

Multi-robot systems have been gaining increasing popularity and opening new opportunities for applications such as intelligent transportation systems. iSpace (Intelligent Space) is a novel concept for effectively integrating distributed sensors, actuators, robots, computing processors, and information technology to make intelligent decisions over a physically and/or virtually connected space. iSpace can be implemented as a large-scale time-sensitive network control system, which has network delay, bandwidth, and security constraints.

This seminar will describe the use of the iSpace concept for controlling multi-robot systems. We will first introduce the iSpace platform from the ADAC Lab (Advanced Diagnosis, Automation and Control) atNorth CarolinaStateUniversity. We will then describe several iSpace projects related to robot control in terms of network delay compensation, bandwidth allocation, performance-security trade-off study, and multi-robot collision warning system. The projects include: (1) predictive control gain scheduler to compensate network time delay; (2) behavior control based bandwidth allocator; (3) performance-security trade-off optimization using co-evolutionary algorithm; and (4) the AIS gene library based resource allocation, with applications in intelligent transportation systems.

Finally, we will highlight several of our recent findings and results, and we will discuss the future direction of the aforementioned projects.
