摘要:
This presentation describes in its first part the political desiderates, the concept and the implementation of the Excellence Initiative of the German federal and state governments and puts it into a broader context of German science policy. General experiences collected during the first phase of the 10 year program will be reported with an emphasis on its impact program on the German science system. In the second part of the presentation, concrete examples of projects funded in each of the funding lines at RWTH Aachen are reported. These examples include the Cluster of Excellence “Tailor-made Fuels from Biomass”, the Graduate School “Aachen Institute for Advanced Study in Computational Engineering Science” and the Institutional Strategy “RWTH 2020: Meeting Global Challenges. The Integrated Interdisciplinary University of Technology”.
演讲人简介:

He got his PhD in System Dynamics and Control at the University of Stuttgart and, after a post-doctorate at the University of Wisconsin, Madison, he was awarded the Habilitation at Stuttgart. His research interest include modeling methodologies, process synthesis, model-based control and real-time optimization with a variety of applications including new value chains from renewable carbon sources to novel products. He is the Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Process Control. Wolfgang is a fellow of IFAC and received the Leibniz award from the German Research Foundation (DFG). He served in various advisory boards and national committees on research and education policies. Currently he is acting as the Chairman of the German Council of Science and Humanities.
