Abstract:
The current market conditions require smart manufacturing based on accurate modeling, simulation and optimization. The advances of algorithm and software enable us to solve large-scale simulation and optimization problems, which improve the economic performances of interdisciplinary applications. This talk summarizes the industrial perspectives and applications of process system engineering within the United Technologies.
In the first part of the talk, I will discuss the system engineering approaches in the system design with applications of vapo compression systems and highlight the use of optimization-based workflows.
In the second part of the talk, I will demonstrate the economic benefit of instantaneous system operation in the current fast-changing market. 10% cost reduction of applying the dynamic real time optimization on an industrial size air separation unit. In addition, I will show online computational delay is reduced by two orders of magnitude using the advanced step algorithm. Lastly theoretical properties of the dynamic real time optimization are analyzed.
Finally, I will talk about an efficient to use the Augmented Lagrangian algorithm to improve the optimization solution time on an embedded optimization platform.
